  MENORCA 2022 !

  We never need excuses to return to Menorca. From a distance it continues to exert its magic, and reminds us that we have not waked up for too long under its immense blue skies, without feeling the embrace of its transparent waters and its luminous calm.

  Those kinds of sensations that the pandemic have made even more precious, and that we want to recover. However, in 2022 we have some very special excuses to give us a getaway to our beloved island: for example, in spring the Hauser & Wirth Art Center will open its doors again, the headquarters that the iconic Swiss gallery specializing in contemporary art opened on the Isla del Rey of the Port of Mahon in July 2021, and that comes to join its rooms in New York, London, Zurich, Hong Kong, Gstaad, Saint Moritz, Monaco and Los Angeles. In times of lavish museums and mass tourism, Manuela and Iwan Wirth have opted precisely for the opposite, a free center accessible only by boat, integrated into the tranquil essence of the island, that they both fell in love with on a private trip 20 years ago. The new center is located in an exquisitely restored annex to the naval hospital built in the 18th century, when Menorca was english for seven decades, and features the charming Cantina Restaurant managed by the Binifadet winery team, with stunning views of the port and surrounded the wild olive trees of the Mediterranean garden designed by the landscaper Piet Oudolf, responsible for the New York High Line. Past and present, history and avant-garde united in a must-see space for lovers of art, the island's cultural legacy or simply beauty.
  
  
  
  But there is much more: Menorca will be the European Capital of Gastronomy in 2022, and will host more than 50 activities around cuisine, local culture, territory and sustainability. Among them, there will be tapas competitions, gastronomic operas, workshops, wine and food truck fairs, exhibitions around the table, tastings, showcookings, congresses...We have been sharing with our clients for years the surprising variety and quality of the gastronomy of the island, beyond the temples of its celebrated traditional cuisine: a remarkable group of young and restless chefs, trained in the best restaurants in the world, have returned or come to Menorca to launch very personal, high-level bets, and in irresistible environments. We can tour the island from Ciudadela to Mahón, or from Fornells to Santo Tomás, making stops on our route to taste memorable menus, while we look at some of the most beautiful coves in the Mediterranean.   It is not surprising that the Travel section of the newspaper EL MUNDO has chosen Menorca among the 10 Best Destinations of 2022 worldwide.   Winter in Menorca

  Winter in Menorca: the island closes down. Days are shorter, and people stop carrying out their usual activities. Many of our favourite restaurants are closed during this season. It becomes dark early, the sea smacks against the cliffs with unusual violence, whilst also smashing the decks of the boats moored in the harbour.

  The freezing cold north wind crosses through this virtually flat island, having arrived from Siberia, the Rhône Valley or the Gulf of Lion in France. Did you know that there are 8 other types of wind that blow through this incredible Air Island?...These are: the Gregale, the Levant, the Sirocco, the Ostro, the Libeccio, the Ponente and the Mistral.
  
  Throughout all of this, the sun peeks out timidly through the clouds. Walking over to Cap de Favaritx, we are enchanted with the ever-changing scene in front of us: the colours and sounds, which permeate the air with terrestrial and essential sensations. Back in Mahon, we can entertain ourselves by shopping at the Claustre del Carme stalls, buying fresh fish at the Mercat del Peix, followed by some wine and tapas in a terrace, with people who enjoy good conversation (despite the mask) and who are in no hurry. It is at this time, that the island regains its identity and slow pace, far from the stress provoked by high season. Everything becomes simple and doable again. There is all the time in the world for exploring the island differently discovering it in all its glory; without any cars, nor fixed timetables.
  
  Small pleasures that in this beginning of 2021 we must enjoy in a different way, carefully following the rules that protect us and our environment from this COVID pandemic, which continues to hit the world with devastating effects. Knowing that we are living a still difficult time, but looking out on a hopeful horizon, working every day and prepared to welcome so many friends very soon, who are eager to return to this beautiful quiet island.
  
  And the day ends. Music to relax with while we watch the storm brewing in the distance, as well as a majestic sunset over the sea, tasting an aromatic Matcha tea and surrounded by the absolute calm of this small corner of the Mediterranean: Jack Brymer & the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's rendition of Clarinet Concerto in A Major K 622 Adagio by WA Mozart.
